The bad weather follows me again. There was a storm that went through yesterday that pretty much shut down all of NC and SC. I left Wilmington and drove to Southport, NC. I was told to check it out. It was a cute little town on the coast, but it was raining the entire day so not much to see.
It rained all day and through the night turned into a small ice storm. The good part was there wasn’t anyone on the roads so the drive to Myrtle Beach, SC was easy. I got into town around 6:30 and found a place to park to wait out the storm.
It was looking like a really nice day when I got up and moving. I decided to drive around the city as it was still a little chilly. Myrtle Beach is another tourist trap. Lots of businesses are seasonal and the city is dead in the winter. From the looks of it, it get crazy here in the summer. I stopped into the Hard Rock and got a pin. After that I started looking for a place to watch the UFC fights.
I initially only saw that the bowling alley and strip club were showing the fights. It was early still and I didn’t want to pay a fortune in drinks at the club so I went to the bowling alley. 810 Billiards and Bowling was one of those new bowling alleys that had a bunch of different things (billiards, cornhole, arcade, ping pong, golf sim, etc.) They had a good special so I figured I’d hang out there for the night. I wasn’t digging the scenery and found out that the new Twin Peaks here was showing the fights too. I finished up and went over there.
The scenery was infinitely better here and they had a good beer special too. I spent most of the night talking with the locals that were next to me and the staff. Just before the main event one of the guys I was sitting with wanted to go play pool. We took off back to the bowling alley. They were supposed to have late night happy hour there, but the manager said that the sign was old and they didn’t have it anymore. We finished the fights and our drink there and went back to Twin Peaks.
Our bartender suggested that we go to Blueberry’s Grill. We went there, they were closed. I started Googling and found another place to play, OD Lounge. They were also closed when we got there. At this point we gave up and called it a night.
