I left Amarillo after lunch today on my way west. The drive was really boring until I started getting into New Mexico. Once I got into the mountainous area it was really pretty. I stopped at a lot of small towns to take pics around Route 66. Hop over to my Route 66 page to see those pics. I passed the half way point!!! I passed through Tucumcari, NM and holy cow was that town kitschy. It must have been a major stop back when the route was popular. Everything was Route 66 themed. The restaurants, hotels, and businesses were all themed that way. In a lot of these smaller towns there were a lot of abandoned or crumbling buildings. I wanted to go to a hot spring today, but there was little to no internet in most of the state. I couldn’t find where any were. I stopped in Santa Fe for the night and I think I’m going to go find one tomorrow.
