I got up earlyish today and took off for the Golden Spike National Historic Park and the Great Salt Lake. The Golden Spike was interesting. This is where the railroads met to form the transcontinental railroad. They had restored two of the steam engines and had them sitting like they were at the time.

Past that I went over to the Great Salt Lake. I wanted to check it out in person. I went to the marina the other day, but I didn’t want to pay the entrance fee. I drove 10 miles on back gravel roads to get out to the Spiral Jetty. This is an art piece made in 1970 at the shore of the lake. Now the lake has receded so much that the water is a half mile from the old shore. I walked all the way out there and walked in the water a bit. I scooped up a bit of water to taste it too. Again, as salty as advertised. It’s sad that the lake is shrinking so much. I guess it’s getting saltier as it gets smaller, killing the ecosystem.

After the lake I wanted to hit up the hot springs on the way to Pocatello, ID. The springs at Lava Hot Springs, ID were really nice. They had multiple pools with different temperatures. It was cheap too. It only cost $10 to get in. It was quite busy though. There were a lot of old people and children, which wasn’t my favorite.
