On my last day in New York City, NY before I head back up to Albany to get my van fixed I took the train into town to go to some museums. I wanted to go to the Intrepid Museum and the MET. Of course the MET is closed on Wednesdays. I started at the New York hall of Science. This was a waste of time and just for kids. After that, I took the train from Queens all the way to the last stop in Manhattan. The Intrepid was a close walk and I got up there around 11. I was going to do this museum last time I was in NYC, but it is kinda pricey. I got in with my museum pass, it has paid for itself a couple times over already.
The Intrepid was a very cool museum. I walked all over the ship included the hanger deck, flight deck, crew quarters, anchor bay, mess hall, and island. They had a few interesting plains on the deck and in the hanger. The highlights were the SR-71, Concord, and Enterprise space shuttle. I think I’ve seen all of the existing space shuttles now.
After the museum I walked downtown for a bit and got lunch at this hole in the wall Thai place before riding back to the van. Once back at the van I found that I only had inches on both sides of me because there was a Mets game and everyone was parking as close together as possible. I managed to get out and was going to make my way to Albany. Google directs me right toward the stadium and I find the cops have blocked that exit off, great. I end up making a U turn in the middle of the road in stadium traffic to get out.
It takes three and a half hours to get up to Albany from NYC if you avoid tolls. I sat in traffic for an hour trying to get out of the city. Once I was out I was on a highway that was so hilly that I was having to speed way up on the down slopes so I could maintain momentum on the way back up. It was a really annoying drive, but I made it.
