New York City baby!!! I found a place to park for my time here at a Planet Fitness in Bayonne, NJ. This is about a 45 minute, two train ride up to Manhattan. I spent today walking around downtown in the financial district. It was supposed to be sunny today, but it was really gloomy. The subway stop from NJ is the World Trade Center. The new building is huge and the memorial fountains are right next to it.
Battery Park is close to the WTC so I went to see the Statue of Liberty.
The next stop was the NY Stock Exchange and the Charging Bull statue. On my way I ran into the Francis Tavern. This is the tavern where George Washington gave his farewell banquet to his officers after the Revolutionary War. I was on the wrong side of the NYSE from the statue and on my way I found the church and graveyard where Alexander Hamilton is buried. The bull statue was packed. There were two lines. One for pictures with the head and one with pictures with the balls. It was stupid.
Next was toward City Hall and the Brooklyn Bridge. The municipal building is really cool and I got some good pics of the skyline.
I was going to try to get up to Washington Park, but it was getting close to sundown and I wasn’t going to make it. Instead I went up to the Bowery Mural, Bleaker Street, and the Ghostbusters building.
By now it was dark and I my feet were getting tired of walking so I got on the subway back to the WTC. The Oculus at the WTC is a fancy new shopping mall and transit terminal in the WTC. It’s very white and new looking. I got some nice pics of the skyline back on the NJ side.
After another half hour train ride and 15 minute walk I got back to the van exhausted. Tomorrow I’m going to midtown, where all of the pretty lights are.
