After I got up today I wanted to get some parts to fix my water tank vent problem. I found that I was losing around a quarter of my water to it sloshing or draining out of my vent hole. I had to run to Menards twice and to Home Depot to get the right fittings because of course one store can’t have everything. By the time I had everything I needed to get cleaned up to meet Dusty.
I took the L Train to get downtown. This was my first experience with public transportation in Chicago. It’s well worth it, albeit confusing to learn. The first stop I went to was a Metra station, which you could not buy passes at. I found out that the Metra is a different thing completely. That was a waste of $5 in parking. Then I drove to the Blue line and found a street parking spot for the night. The first trip I just bought a single trip pass for $3.50. I figured it would be the same price as the three day pass if I only took six trips.
When I met up with Dusty downtown at the Sweetwater Grille. We had some apps and a beer then went adventuring downtown. I got a lot of cool pics of the different buildings.The Wrigley building, Trump Tower, Burbury building, and Marina City were my favorite buildings.
As we walked further into the North Loop we found a huge McDonalds and a Hard Rock Cafe. I’m going to start collecting pins instead of the glasses now.I’m sure I’ll end up doubling up.
I found the coolest brewery that I’ve been to so far next. The All Rise Brewing taproom would be my hangout if I lived in Chicago. The atmosphere was dark and moody, they had heavy metal playing the entire time, and they had House of a Thousand Corpses 2 playing on the projector. The beer was pretty good too.
We took a Lyft back to the hotel since we were a ways away. I headed back to the train and this time decided to buy the three day pass. I got confused because they charge you for the card and then refund you that charge when you activate it. I ended up having an extra $5 on my card because of that. So far I have $13.50 in learning fees…
