Today is my last day in Chicago. I wanted to go to the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry, but they close at 4PM and by the time I get downtown I would only have 30 minutes or so to see it. That was a little disappointing. After looking at the weather I decided to change my gameplan for this trip and drive the entirety of Route 66 instead of going up to the NE. It’s getting too late in the year to be up in the New York area. This whole week has been pretty cold at night and I have to use a heater all night or I freeze. I found out that around 50 degrees is the coldest it can be before I need heat. I ran out of propane one night and had to put extra clothes on to sleep.
I went back downtown for the last time, took a pic of the Route 66 Begins sign, and started looking for somewhere to eat. I decided on a place called Manny’s. It was supposed to be a fantastic deli. It ended up being a lot farther away than I expected, but I made it there before they closed. On my way I found the starting point of Great Chicago Fire. It’s been turned into the training center for the Chicago Fire Department. There was a memorial outside of it for the fire. I had this huge sandwich called My Four Kinder. It had brisket, pastrami, turkey pastrami, and corned beef.I added a slice of provolone and it was delicious.
When I got back to the van I stopped at Exit Strategy Brewing and parked for the night.
