Yesterday was a boring driving day and today I made it up to Burlington, VT. The Adirondacks are beautiful mountains. They are a bit hazardous if you don’t plan well though. There is about 50 miles of mountainous area where there are no towns, gas, or cell service. I made a few stops at some historical sites, that will be a theme in the NE I’m sure. First Stop was near Schroon Lake. I got some great pics of the fall colors in the Green Mountains.

Next, I went to Ticonderoga. I wanted to go to the fort, but they were closed. I got some pics from around town. The falls were pretty. I had lunch here in the Wal-Mart parking lot, super exciting.

Next I stumbled upon Crown Point Historic Area and Lake Champlain. I didn’t even know these were a thing until I got to them. I saw a pretty park, pulled over, and found the ruins of two forts from the 1700’s over a hill. The first I explored was the British fort and Crown Point. This fort was built in 1759 and was destroyed in a fire in 1773. The barracks are the only things left. A little ways away next to the lake was the ruins of a French fort, Fort St. Frederic, from 1734. This fort was way bigger with a four story main building. This was destroyed in 1759 when the French blew it up so it wouldn’t get into British hands. Next to both of these was the Lake Champlain Bridge.

As I got into Burlington, I went to the tallest filing cabinet in the world, a swimming bay in Oakledge Park, and Church Street Marketplace. The marketplace was neat. It was a pedestrian street with the oldest church at one end and the courthouse at the other. It had lots of shops and history plaques.

At the end of the night I found Queen City Brewery and had a a few samples before they closed.
