Today was really fun. I explored Balboa Park and a bunch of the museums there. For the amount of times that I’ve been to San Diego, CA I can’t believe that I’ve never been to the park before. Being right next to the zoo I thought I would’ve found it, but I guess not. The main reason that I went here was for the San Diego Air and Space Museum.
I was only planning on going to the Air and Space Museum, but I found out that it was museum month and if your got a free pass from a library, you can get into a ton of museums for half off. The Air and Space Museum was really small for the kind of museum it is. Compared to a lot of the other air museums it was tiny. It was still interesting though. They had a Blackbird out front and some rare planes on display inside. I wouldn’t recommend going unless you got a discount like I did.
The next museum was the San Diego Automotive Museum. It was another small museum, but it was cheap to get into and next door to Air and Space. They had some interesting and pretty cars here. Again, it wasn’t the best automotive museum I’ve visited, but for the cost it was worth seeing. The most interesting vehicle was the $75,000 Cadillac. This car and trailer was built to drive cross-country nonstop for record-breaking purposes. It was able to refuel, change oil, change tires, add water, inflate tires, and make phone calls without stopping. It had a shower, bar, kitchen, ironing board, telephone, hookah, and bathroom all built in. The other stand outs were the Lamborghini Countach and DeLorean that I was able to sit in.
The next spot was the Natural History Museum. It was on the other side of the park and there was a lot of neat architecture and scenery along the way. This was the best museum in the park in my opinion. After I left I walked around the park for another hour checking out all of the other sights. Balboa Park is one of the most beautiful places in the United States.
After leaving the park I went to North Park, walked around, and did a little bar hopping. The first brewery was Original 40 Brewing Company. They had a really pretty brewery and I was able to talk to the owner for a bit. He was nice enough to give me a free beer since this was the 400th brewery that I’ve visited on my adventure. The next spot was 619 Spirits. This place was fun and had great drinks. I hung out with the brand new bartenders and had the guys signature drink. I think I got hit on too, but I didn’t pick up on it and she went back to her table. The last place I went to was Mike Hess Brewing. I just got a couple of pints and left back for the van.
