Over the past few days I’ve been bouncing around LA, hanging out with Kiel, and seeing some sights. On the 7th I went to see the oldest McDonald’s that’s still around. I drove down to Downey, CA after giving plasma and found it. They had a little museum with some old artifacts and the doors to the original McDonald’s University. This restaurant was set up without an interior seating area. All of the tables are outside and there were two or three walk up order windows.

I left McDonald’s I drove up to Pasadena, CA to check out Cerveceria del Pueblo. I got there a half hour before they officially opened, but they let me in anyway. I started talking to the owner. We talked about different breweries and what they are doing right and wrong and bs’ing for a couple hours.

On the 9th I went to the Elbow Room to watch the big UFC fights. I ended up spending too much money here, but the pizza was really good and the drinks were cheap as far a Hollywood goes. The bartender was awesome though. He gave me a free drink for being the first person that he met from ND. The place was packed and the guy next to me was one of the regulars. We made a couple bets on the fights since California doesn’t allow sports betting. Anyway, I won a couple more free drinks even though I gave the guy the first choice. I’m glad I wasn’t able to bet since my choices all lost.

After the fights I got a hold of Kiel and met him and one of his friends at the Rainbow Room. There was some metal band, that wasn’t very good, and we hung out until bar close. When I left I was going to walk back to the van, four miles away. I decided to try my luck with a scooter for the first time. I figured it out pretty quickly and made it all the way back to the area where I was parked. I accidentally went a couple blocks past where I was parked. I went for a U turn and hit a hole, crack, rock, or something and wiped out smashing my leg and face on the concrete. No road rash, but I was sore for the next week.

Today I visited the California Science Center. The grounds were really pretty. They had some huge trees in front of the rose garden. Once I got in the building I saw a sea of children on school trips. I was expecting more of a museum than a activity center. It didn’t take long to get through the exhibits. The aquarium was neat and the best part was the Blackbird mounted outside. I wouldn’t recommend going here unless you have kids, but it was free so it was worth it.

After leaving the Science Center it was getting too late to get out of LA so I went to Angry Ferret Brewing. This was a small brewery that makes traditional styles of beer. The owners were cool. They showed me brew room and talked about the business.I liked all of their stuff, especially the rye and black ale.
