Today I wanted to go out to the Hoover Dam. The last time I was out there the bridge was still under construction. Instead of paying to park out there, I parked at the head of the Historic Railroad Hiking Trail and biked out to the dam. It was a pretty easy trail to bike and about 3.5 miles one way. It follows the old railroad that was used to haul material and people to the dam while they were building it. There were five tunnels, you get to go by the boneyard, and there are signs with facts about the trail and dam along the way. There were some beautiful views of Lake Mead along the way.
I wasn’t able to bike all the way to the dam. They make you park by the parking ramp and walk the rest of the way. Once I got there it was the same as last time except the bridge was finished. This time I walked across the top of the dam and over to one of the viewing platforms.
