Today I explored Corpus Christi, TX. The North Beach area has the aircraft carrier USS Lexington, the aquarium, and the Harbor Bridges. By the time I got to the Lexington there was only 30 minutes before they closed so I didn’t tour the ship. I did get to go to the gift shop though and that let me see the hanger deck.

The harbor bridges have an interesting story to them. The original bridge was completed in 1959 and was going to be replaced with a new bridge in 2020. The new bridge was going to let larger ships pass under and provide a pedestrian path across. The company that designed the bridge had one of their other bridges collapse in 2018 and that caused the state to order an independent review of the design and fix significant design flaws that were found. The main span was just completed in January and they plan on opening it later this year.

After crossing the bridge I parked in downtown Corpus Christi and walked around. Downtown was dead and there wasn’t much to see. To drove over to the arena and found there was a carnival going on. It cost $10 per person and I just wanted to walk around so I skipped it. I walked all over the arena area and over to the baseball park before going back to the van. I drove down Shoreline Blvd. and saw some huge amazing houses. These houses are wild. I would’ve taken pics if I wasn’t driving.
