5/8/2023 – 5/9/2023
I ended up being an alternate for the clinical study, that means that I only would’ve gotten in if someone didn’t show up or there was something wrong. I was a little bummed out, but I’m able to go back home sooner.
On the 8th I went to Culver City to walk around. I’ve never been to this part of LA before. Parking here is horrible. I had to drive all the way around downtown to find a spot on an off street. I stopped at Los Angeles Ale Works for a beverage and ended up hanging out there until they closed. I was hanging out with the beertender and some of the locals all night. They taught me a card game that I almost immediately forgot how to play.
On the 9th I went over to Kiels so we could go out to lunch. We went to Bludso’s Bar & Que and I had their lunch special. They had some good food. After lunch I had Kiel drop me off at the subway station in Hollywood so I could explore downtown.
For the amount of times that I’ve been to LA, I have never been downtown before. The subway was as terrible as always and I got off at the City Hall station. I walked all over downtown. from City Hall to the Crypto Arena, where the basketball and hockey teams play. I wanted to go to Spire 73, the bar and patio on the 73rd floor of the tallest building in LA, but didn’t. I was going to have Kiel come with me, but I found out that he hates downtown and won’t go with me. I got to see an Osprey flying over downtown.
I ended up hiking all the way over to Lincoln Heights, four miles away, to go to the only cidery in LA, Benny Boy Brewing. It was unfortunately just ok. On my way back I stopped at Highland Park Brewery. My feet were so tired I had to hang out there for a while. After I left there I walked to the train in Chinatown and took it back to Hollywood. I got a hold of Kiel on the train and asked him if I could shower all of the LA off me. I walked all the way from Hollywood to Kiels in West Hollywood. Of course my phone died on my way so I had to remember how to get to his place. I only walked past one turn and figured it out pretty quickly.
