Yesterday I left Lake Tahoe for Salt Lake City. I’ve been on this route before and it’s an easy drive. One thing that I missed last time, or just don’t remember, is the Tree of Utah. It’s an art display in the salt flats right off the highway.
Once I got to SLC I just camped out for the night and got my ticket to see the Bingham Copper Mine.
This morning I got up early to do the tour before the mine tour got packed. Last time I was in SLC they weren’t doing tours due to maintenance and I bummed to miss out. It was worth the $6 to take the tour. They brought us up to the top of the mine and pretty much just let us out to wander the tour area. In the pics you can see how small the trucks and shovels look. That just shows how big the mine is. The bus driver explained that they can expand into the surrounding mountains for the next hundred years. It was amazing to see something so large.
