Yesterday I made my way up to Cleveland, OH, stopping to get a frolf game in along the way. I came here specifically to go to Slyman’s Deli. They were featured on Diner’s, Drive-Inn’s, and Dive’s, so they had to be good right? I found out that Verizon sucks in Cleveland and I actually didn’t have any signal in the spot that I parked last night.

I got up around 11 and walked down the block to Slyman’s. There was a line to the door by then, but they were super fast at getting orders taken. I ordered the half and half pastrami and corned beef melt. It was pretty expensive, but it was huge. I sat at the counter to eat and watched as the line got longer and longer as it got to lunchtime. There were boxes of sandwiches waiting to be picked up from call ins and a line down the block of people waiting to get in. It was totally worth the money.

After lunch a found a spot to park that was fairly close to downtown and still free parking. Since Cleveland doesn’t have metro trains I walked an extra half mile to get to my first stop, the USS Cod submarine and the airport. I didn’t take the tour of the sub, but I got some pics from outside the gate and then the two F4 Phantom’s at the airport.

Walking back from the airport I stopped at the pier downtown by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. I was there last time and didn’t need to go in again. I got a pic of the Cleveland sign on the pier and was going to go to the science center to get a penny pressed. I walked to the back entrance and found out they are closed for a few weeks for cleaning and changing exhibits. That was kind of a bummer, but the annoying part was that the road to the front of the building was closed for construction so I had to walk all the way back around to get out.

I was getting kinda hot at this point so I stopped at Nobel Beast Brewing on my way back to the van. I only had their Oktoberfest and a bunch of water and asked for the bill. I gave them my plasma card and they gave it back to me and said they can’t accept cards that only swipe. I asked why and the server told me it was because of the higher fees and they would get in trouble. This super annoyed me and I paid with my normal card. I asked what would happen if that was my only form of payment and all I got was “*shoulders* I don’t know.” After I left I wrote a scathing review of the place. They responded and told me that the waitress was mistaken about the fees and some line about not swiping a chip card, which wasn’t the case anyway.

Next I went over to The Flats area of town to get my penny pressed at the aquarium. I walked around the area to see all the cool bridges and great views of downtown.

Now it was time to do a little brewery hopping. I drove over to Great Lakes Brewing and got a flight and a pint. I got to try out switching cellular networks here too. I found out that you have to connect to a WiFi network or you won’t be able to get the new eSIM for the network you are switching to. It took a little while to get the new eSIM, but the process went pretty smoothly. I switched to the AT&T network and everything was going well. I had service and it was a smooth transition, or so I thought.

As I left Great Lakes I found out that I didn’t have any data on my phone. I walked back to Great Lakes, sat on their patio to connect to WiFi, and got a hold of US Mobile support. I was pretty sure I know what the problem was as I had the same issue with my moms phone. I sat there and was troubleshooting my phone for a half hour or more until we got the settings set up correctly. After that data was working fine.

I walked to Bookhouse Brewing next. This was the first place that I’ve been to that does Kolsch service. Kolsch service is traditionally as much Kolsch style beers as you want served in thin 8oz glasses. Every one that you order the server puts a little mark on your coaster to keep track of how many you’ve had. It’s a neat thing that I’d like to try at some German bar sometime. Anyway, I saw they were having trivia there in a couple hours and decided to do that. I left after two beers and went to Forest City Brewery to get my next BOGO beers.

By the time I finished those it was time for trivia to start back at Bookhouse. I walked back, getting an amazing shot of downtown on the way, and got signed up for trivia. There were a couple of girls sitting next to me playing and I asked if they wanted to combine teams. We started off strong, but ended up in the middle of the pack by the end. It was still fun and I had a good evening.

When I got back to the van I was going to watch something via the hotspot on my phone. The hotspot would turn on and connect with my chromecast, but I couldn’t get any data through it. I got a hold of US Mobile support again and spent the next hour troubleshooting this issue. They eventually gave up and told me to switch to the T-Mobile network. That will have to wait until tomorrow when I find WiFi again.
