It was so smoky in Bend that I decided to get out of Oregon and head back East. Yesterday I drove from Bend to Boise, ID. Before packing in for the night I went to Edge Brewery. I was able to talk to the locals here and they let us stay after closing time. They had a lot of good beer. There was an older regular that was a talker. He’d ask a question and interrupt before you could finish answering.
This morning I got up and wanted to go for a hike. I first had to get some Del Taco since I can’t get it at home. I went up to the old penitentiary and started out to the top of Table Rock. The trail was really nice. It was about 2.5 miles to the top. It was still smoky enough that I got winded and had to stop a couple times. The last quarter of the way up was the hardest part. There was a beautiful view from the top, despite the smoke. I took a different way down that was a harder trail and I would’ve been wiped out half way through if I took that way up.
I needed some water and a drink after that hike. I talked to some friends who lived here and they recommended some places downtown. I parked on the North side by the capitol and walked around most of downtown. First I went to Bardenay Restaurant and Distillery. This place was pretty fancy and decided to just get a lot of water and one of their signature drinks. It was a basil and gin drink. It was delicious. Next, I went to Boise Brewing. Their flights were an unusually large 8 samples. I liked most of them. They closed early so I wasn’t able to try everything. Next, I went to Barbarian Brewing. This place was nice and the locals were really nice. Finally I went to 10 Barrel Brewing. This place was huge. I had another flight and watched the football game. On my way back to the van I got a good shot of the capitol and was able to crash at the spot I was parked at. I really like Boise. It’s made my list of possible places to settle.
