Today was another busy site seeing day. I started by going to Garden of the Gods. This is a beautiful park right on the edge of Colorado Springs. I hiked around the whole perimeter of the park. It took about two hours to do the whole park. I’ll le the pics speak for themselves. I did see some deer here, they were so tame. There are a lot of pics, so I’ll put them at the bottom of the post.
After Garden of the Gods I drove out to Pikes Peak. This was a really cool drive. It took almost an hour to get from the bottom to the top. The views on the way up were amazing. Next time I’d like to take the train or be a passenger so I can take in the views better. The van made it without any issues on the way up.
When I got to the top I hung out at the Visitor Center and took pics of the peak. I had to try the world famous “High Altitude Donuts” that they make up there. The weather changes so fast up there. When I got up there it was snowing and then 15 minutes later it was sunny. I had to retake all of my pics when the sun came out. It was cold up there too. I think it was only 30-40 degrees.
On the way down the van didn’t fare as well. I was dumb and didn’t realize I was riding the brakes as much as I was. They were doing brake checks about halfway down. Mine were smoking a bit. I had to pull off for a half hour to let them cool off. From then on I was in first or second gear. I’ve remembered to do this for all of the mountains since. Again, pics at the bottom.
I ended my night in Canon City, CO on the way to Royal Gorge.
