I had a great day today exploring Peterson Space Force Base. This was the most intensive security that I’ve had to go through to get on a military base. I had to email three days ahead of time, then I had to give my ID and vehicle registration in the visitors center before they let me through. It was worth it when I got in though. As I was leaving the visitors center there was a F-35 flying above me.
I got to the museum and went in. At first I was very underwhelmed with the museum. It was a small building with hardly anything in it. Once you go out the back door though you find all of the jets on display. There weren’t as many as some other museums, but it was still neat. The best part was in a hanger they had a bunch of information about the Cheyenne Mountain Complex, where NORAD is. They had models of the complex, recreations of the command center, and a recreation of a missile silo command facility.
When I was finished with the museum I decided to walk around the base. There were a few more displays that were off the museum campus. I got to see a bunch of Osprey’s and C-130 cargo planes lined up on the runways too.
