9/29/2021 – Chapter 3
I’m back on the road!!!
The whole COVID thing messed up my trip for an entire year. After I got my motorcycle back to Fargo I ended up getting a job at The Computer Place for a few months. I worked there until the end of February. It was nice to refill the bank account a little bit. I mostly hung out for the rest of the summer letting things cool off around the country.
I did a couple of modifications to the van in my downtime. I added a hitch and motorcycle carrier to the back. I also added a diesel heater. It’s really nice not to have to worry about heat when it gets cold anymore. The downside to the motorcycle carrier is that if I want/need to get to the garage area, I have to take the cycle off.
For the first leg of this chapter I have a companion for a few days. My friend Ashley has a few days off and was going to fly out to visit me wherever I was. I ended up not leaving until her vacation so she hitched a ride with me and is going to fly back to Fargo from where we end up. We started out by going to Grand Rapids, MN. I wanted to see the Judy Garland museum and the John Oliver exhibit that was on display. They locked the doors five minutes before we got there. We got out, stretched our legs, and looked to see if there was anything else interesting in Grand Rapids.
We ended up finding Klockow Brewing Company. It was a nice little brewery that had some good beers and a cool mural that covered an entire wall. They ran out of stickers, but one of the regulars took our info and said he’d mail some to us.
The last stop for the day was Duluth, MN. Ashley hadn’t seen Canal Park. We stopped there and walked around the whole park. It was getting dark by then so we decided to hit up another couple breweries and park for the night. We went to Ursa Minor Brewing first. They were having trivia night, so there were a ton of kids there. Ursa Minor was a really cool venue with a huge outdoor area and the indoor area used garage doors for two walls. I think this place would be awesome to hang out at in the summer.
We found a spot where we could park, for the night, around the corner from Wild State Cider. I didn’t have to drive any more this way. By the clientele that was in there, they mostly cater to the womenfolk. There were three guys including me and around ten women. They had some fun predefined flights that were pretty good.
Overall it was an excellent start to getting back out!
