We got up today and took a hike around the park. The first path we took was really easy going. It got slightly more challenging on the next path that led to the main road. Along the road there were info signs about the planets that included their Greek/Roman mythology and some other facts that were interesting enough to read. It was a nice three mile hike to start the morning.

Ashley only had a couple days left before she flew back so we decided to blast down to Detroit today. We stopped for lunch at Bay City, MI on the beach of Lake Huron. It would’ve been really nice, but there were so many bees buzzing around our food we kept it fast.

When we got to Detroit I started looking for a train station to park near so we could take public transportation to get downtown in the morning. When we got to one I looked at the schedule and found out there isn’t a train from the burbs to downtown. I found a streetcar, Q-line, that went up and down one of the main streets near the major landmarks.

It was too late to go downtown tonight so we went to the MGM Casino. As I’m driving into the parking garage, i hear a clunk as my fan hits the 8’4″ clearance sign. I pull off right away and try to figure out what to do. As we’re sitting there a car pulls out of a spot near where I pulled off. We park and go into the casino. The place in nice, what you’d expect a casino to be. None of the restaurants looked good so we started looking for somewhere that sounded good. After picking a place to eat it was time to figure out how to get out of there. We tried waiting for security to drive around, but they didn’t show up so we went back in and asked the front desk to send security over to help us out. When security got there, I explained the situation and he was cool with helping. He said it wasn’t the first time they had to do this and probably not the last.

We parked on a side street near the restaurant and I payed the meter. We got to the restaurant and found out it was closed, probably due to Covid. Luckily there was a HopCat across the street. I’ve been to the HopCat in Minneapolis a couple times and it was delicious, so we went there. The menu had changed since I was there last and I found out that they had to cut a ton off the menu because of Covid. It was a bummer since they removed my two favorite things, but it was still pretty good.

Nothing else was open at this time of night so we decided to grab a bottle of wine and find a place to park. We found a little shady liquor store near the Q-line and found out that poor people, their main clientele, do not like wine that isn’t sweet. Anyway, we got a bottle and found a spot next to a police station to park for the night that was within walking distance to the Q-line.
