Today was my first exciting day in Indianapolis. The last couple of days it’s been raining and I wasn’t able to do anything. I got going early, for me, and headed downtown. Indianapolis has a really nice football stadium, Lucas Oil Field, where the Colts play. It’s also close to the Indians baseball stadium, Victory Field.

Next I was going to head to the canal walk, but found out that I was right next to the zoo. I was originally going to leave the zoo for last if I had spare time, but I’m here wo why not? Right across the river from the zoo was the TCR Amphitheater. The zoo was good. Not the best, but not the worst. The dolphin show was less of a show and more of a “stop using plastic” commercial with a few dolphin tricks. 2/10 would not go again. The rest of the zoo was cool. They had a rollercoaster and a tram thing. They had a wide variety of animals and I got to see almost all of them.

To get to the zoo I had to cross a river and the bridge was a big pedestrian bridge with sculptures on it. It was a good view. Next was the canal walk. It started at the NCAA headquarters and ended downtown. It was pretty, but didn’t have as many shops as some of the other canal walks that I’ve done. It did have a 9/11 memorial with a couple of the beams from the towers though.

By this time I had walked some 4 miles or more and was very parched. Conveniently I found a brewery, Brew Link Brewpub. I hammered down a couple glasses of water and had a couple half pints before I got hungry and ordered a burger.

After the refreshments it was time to get back on the path. There was still a bunch I wanted to see before it got dark. I hooked up with the Indianapolis Cultural Trail and headed toward the American Legion Mall. On my way there I walked past the Scottish Rite Cathedral. This was a huge Freemason building. Across the street was the American Legion mall, Obelisk Square, and the Indiana World War Memorial. At the corners of these places they had historical info about them. I love that kind of stuff. The World War Memorial was the best of the three.

Next on the list was the Soldiers and Sailors Monument. This monument was amazing. It’s 284 ft. tall and was built in 1902. I had to walk around it twice to try to see all of the detail.

There were historical building all around the memorial. The Circle Tower and Circle Theater were the most interesting.

A couple blocks away was the capitol building. It was a pretty standard looking capitol building.

As I was heading back to the van I walked by the some cool buildings including the Indiana Repertory Theater, the PNC Center, the Indianapolis Artsgarden, the Circle Center Mall, and Historic Union Station.

My legs were shot by this time so I actually went back to the van. It was a great day in Indianapolis and the weather was perfect to spend outside. I managed to get over 20,000 steps in today.
