I left Springfield today and went to St Louis. I spent the day mainly driving. I had the radio on as I got close to St. Louis and heard that Yngwie Malmsteen was playing at this little club on the north side of town. I pulled over at the next stop and got a ticket. It was pretty cheap at $27.50. I checked the map and saw I would make it with 30 minutes to spare. I got there at 6:30 and the door were supposed to open at 7. Everyone had to wait in line, outside, until at least 7:30. Once we got in we had to wait until 8ish before the opener started. He only got to play three songs before they called him off. After he left the stage, the roadie was doing his thing getting set up until almost 9. Once Yngwie finally got on stage his backing audio wasn’t working so the roadie had to come back out and screw around with that for another ten minutes. Once everything was working Yngwie’s set was really weird. He would play a song, or at least noodled on his guitar, then would ask the crowd if they had any questions. This continued for about six songs and then he was done. I only recognized one song out of the bunch. His entire set lasted maybe 40 minutes. I’m glad I got to see him, but unfortunately not in his prime.
