Today I explored Wilmington, NC. It’s a cute little city on the coast. I parked on the South side of downtown. There are really only two streets in the downtown area. I went to the riverwalk and made my way up to the Port City Marina at the North end. Here I found a few “house boats”, but they were more house than boat. I really wanted to see the inside of them. I looked up the cost of a slip here and just the cost of the slip is around $200k.

It was gloomy but the temperature was 70 degrees so I got to walk around in shorts for the first time in months. The rest of downtown had lots of little shops, bars, and restaurants. There were a lot of 19th century buildings. Lots of the buildings and houses in the area had plaques on them with stories of who built and lived in them. There were a lot of neat old houses and shops here. On my way back to the van I found one of the best stories that I’ve seen so far on a historical plaque.

My next stop was the Battleship North Carolina.

I hadn’t eaten yet today and I had a few places recommended to me. I picked Sweet n’ Savory. Once I got there I found out that it was in an episode of Diners Drive-ins and Dives. I ordered the Seafood Waterzooi. This was one of, if not, the best seafood dishes I’ve had so far. I highly recommend this place. After I ate I got a flight of a bunch of different local beers and hung out with the bartender for almost two hours.

Across the street was a brewery that I wanted to check out, Waterman’s Brewing. I walked over there around 7:30. I tried pretty much all of their beers and they had a girl band that did a good job. I talked to one of the locals until they closed the place and then found a place to park for the night.
