I’m going to combine a few days to save you guys some clicks. Sunday was a pretty chill day. I went to see the governors mansion, the Gigal Sculpture Garden, frisbee golfing, and then to Fisher Brewing Company. I liked every beer that I had here. They were one of the oldest small breweries that I’ve been to, on and off since the late 1800’s.

On the third I went to the Natural History Museum of Utah. On the way I stopped at the Olympic Cauldron Plaza. This is where the opening ceremonies for the 2002 Winter Olympics were held. The museum was pretty interesting. They had a neat dinosaur exhibit. When I got to the top of the museum I went out on one of the terraces and got locked out. I wanted to see one more thing, but the machines wouldn’t let me back in.

I had an awesome day on the fourth. I started out going to the Fort Douglas Museum, the local military museum. It was small, but it was free. They had some interesting exhibits, including a bunch of artillery and a chunk of the World Trade Center.

This is where the fun started. I went to my third major concert in three weeks. I was excited to see Slipknot again. I’ve seen them three of four times before. They started their tour in Fargo with another band that I really wanted to see, Jinjer. I was bummed that I had already left when there were there. When I found out they were going to be in Salt Lake City I immediately got tickets. They switched up opening acts at some point so I didn’t get to see Jinjer, but Ice Nine Kills put on a good show. I was surprised by how many people came for them. When Slipknot asked how many people had seen them before it looked like maybe a quarter of the audience had. All of the bands put on a really good show. I think the festival shows for Slipknot were better, but I understand this is a tour and not just one weekend.

I was so pumped up after the show that I wanted to keep the party going. I found an awesome heavy metal bar, Aces High Saloon, South of downtown to go to. The place was dead, but I found out the owner was sitting next to me. He had gone to the show too, so we talked about the different concerts that we’d been to recently. This is where I found out Utah has dumb liquor laws. Apparently in Utah you can’t serve draft beer that is over 5% ABV even if you have a liquor license. This means that you can’t sample any of the wild high ABV beers that the breweries around here make. You have to get a whole can. I hung out at the bar with the locals and then I asked the owner if it was ok that I stayed in the parking lot. He told me that his parking lot is my KOA any time that I’m in the area.
