I left West Yellowstone, MT yesterday and got to Helena, MT in the late afternoon. On my way I got stuck in a cattle drive. I was moo’d at by several grumpy cows.

Right away when I got to Helena, I went to the capital and the liberty bell.

Everything closes at 8PM here so I just crashed for the night. Today I found they were having Oktoberfest at the fairgrounds. I cruised over there to check it out. They had a car show, music, keg tossing, and stein holding. The car show had a few neat cars. One that I’ve never seen before was a De Tomaso Pantera. I was jazzed to see one in real life. There were of course a bunch of custom painted and chopped Olds, muscle cars, 50’s Chevy’s, lots of Mustangs, and a Viper. Vipers are one of my favorite cars.

I found a brewery to check out, Speakeasy Forty One. I was going to go here last night, but like I said, everything closes at eight. I went to walk in and I was confused for a second as there was a bookshelf where the doors were supposed to be. I pulled on the frame and found out it was a door. It was very clever. I hung out here for a couple hours talked to the the beertender and her husband about the area, my travels, and random stuff.

I went downtown after leaving the brewery. Helena has a walking mall in the Last Chance Gulch part of downtown. This is a few blocks that is pedestrian only with a bunch of shops, restaurants, and bars. There was a creek that ran through the middle. It was a cute little area. I went over to the old Governors mansion that was a few blocks away. Across the street was a house with awesome Halloween decorations. I went to the old church next. This is one of the defining buildings in town. As I walked back toward the van I stopped into Ten Mile Creek Brewery for last call.
