I finally got to Redwood National Park today. I stopped at the visitors center at the North end of the park and it was closed for the season already So I went to the park headquarters in Crescent City, OR. I got my park stamp and continued to the park. I first stopped at Trees of Mystery to get a pic of Paul Bunyan and Babe then have lunch.
The first hike I went on was the Ah-Pah Interpretative Trail. This was a short half mile in and out with some signs about them taking out a road. Prepare yourself for trees.
The next spot I wanted to see was the Corkscrew Tree. This is a tree that grew in such a way that it’s few trunks grew in a spiral around the main trunk. This was another short mile long walk out and back on the Prairie Creek Trail. I was able to find a banana slug on the path too. They are the second largest slugs in the world.

I wanted to do a longer hike so I drove down the Big Tree and hiked the Cathedral Trees trail. Big Tree was indeed a big tree. It’s a popular sport for people to take pics since it’s right off the road. Cathedral Trees was a really pretty three mile trail. All of the trees were so big. They are called cathedral trees because the original tree was damaged in some way and a bunch of trunks grew out of what was left of the main trunk. There were a couple meadows where the sun could get through that was very pretty.
After the hike I stopped at the Prairie Creek Visitors Center to get the last stamp in the park then headed to Eureka, CA. Before finding a place to park I checked out the Carson Mansion, considered the most grand Victorian home in America.
