We explored San Diego today. We started in Little Italy. They had an art walk going on that was pretty cool. We walked through all of that and stopped for a burger. After lunch we went to Waterfront Park. There was a food truck event going on in the park that we stopped at. They had a band playing, vendors, and food trucks. We walked by the Maritime Museum, down to the Midway museum, kissing statue, and Fish Market (which we found out was a restaurant.) Next we went to Seaport Village. The village was designed in a concentric circle layout with a fountain in the middle. There are shops and restaurants in the circles. We kept going down the shore to the marina. There were some amazing super yachts in the big boat harbor. Across the bay there were three aircraft carriers moored.
We walked all the way down to Petco Park, where the Padres play, then headed back into the city. After walking around the stadium we stopped at the Hard Rock Hotel to get a pin and continued through the Gaslamp Quarter. We took 5th Ave all the way to the light rail station.
We hopped on the train and rode up to Old Town. I didn’t know what this was all about before we got here. We found out that it is a museum area with a bunch of historic buildings and shops. It was neat, worth the train ride.
We hopped on the train back to Little Italy and went back to the van. From there we drove out to Coronado. This is one of my favorite places. We first stopped in the park to get some pictures of the bridge and San Diego. We needed to get off of our feet for a while so we went to Coronado Brewing Company for a drink and to look for a place to eat. We wanted to go somewhere fancy for supper and decided on Bluewater Boathouse Seafood Grill. We ordered an appetizer, two entrees, and split everything. The food was so good. Not quite as good as Sweet and Savory in Wilmington, NC though.
After supper we walked across the street to the Hotel Del Coronado. I’ve never actually gone through the hotel before. We checked out the power house, wash building, and then the hotel. We walked all over the hotel, it is gorgeous. All the decoration are wood and the views are amazing. I would love to see what the rooms look like.
