Before heading out of the LA area I wanted to see the Lockheed-Martin Skunkworks building and the Blackbird Airpark.
This is probably as close as I’ll be able to get to the Skunkworks.
When I pulled into the airpark I didn’t see the blackbirds right away. I thought they might be in the buildings or something. I walked around the the main area of the museum, they had a few planes that I haven’t seen before. I went inside the museum shop and was bummed out that they didn’t have any blackbirds on display. I talked to the staff for a little bit then left. On my way out I saw a sign that pointed to a different section of the park.
I walked past a fence and boom, two blackbirds and a U-2 were parked in their won area. I hadn’t seen a U-2 up close before and it was cool to see two Blackbirds parked next to each other. One of them was the prototype A-12, the first one ever flown!
After the airpark it was too late to leave for the national parks so I went to Lucky Luke Brewing. I stayed for a couple then went to bravery brewing. bravery was packed when I got there. They are the brewery to go to in the Antelope Valley. R. Lee Ermey promoted them and his uniform is on display in the brewery. I stayed here all night playing cornhole and hanging out with the locals.
