On the 2nd I found a Famous Dave’s so I could try to use my old gift card. I went in, had them check on it, and we found out it was still valid. I had never even used it in the 13 years that I had it. I was able to get a full mediocre BBQ meal for free! After lunch I got a hold of my friend Kerri to see if she wanted to get together for a drink or something. I haven’t seen her in a couple years since she moved out of Fargo.
I met her and her boyfriend in Fredericksburg, IA, where she is buying a house, for a burger and a beer. Afterward I drove to Dubuque, IA for the night.
The 3rd was a long boring day of driving.
On the 4th I was in Union, IL and went to the Illinois Railway Museum. It took me three hours to get around the whole place. It was really interesting and a must see for railroad enthusiasts. They everything from steam locomotives, streetcars, a streamliner, cargo trains from different eras, metro trains, a couple of snow plows, and an amazing miniature railroad room. There is also a tram that brings you all over the grounds. I enjoyed the steam locomotives and miniatures the best.
After the museum I checked out the GenCon website and realized that it was going on this weekend and not last. I thought I missed it. I high tailed it down to Indianapolis, IN so I could see the con on it’s best day.
