I had an awesome day today. I started off going to the Carnegie Natural History Museum and Museum of Art. This was definitely one of my top three museums in the country. My favorite natural history museum for sure. I ended up getting a membership to the four museums here for $75. I wish I would’ve kept my receipt for the science center so I could’ve gotten a discount. This lets me get free admission to over 300 museums and science centers across the country. I figure it will pay for itself after three of four uses. The two here that I’ll be using it for are $25 each already.

I started with the natural history museum at the mineral exhibit. This was one of the largest of it’s kind that I’ve seen. They had tone of beautiful gems and minerals. It took me at least a half hour to go through just this part. Next was the dinosaur area. They had some awesome skeletons on display. Next was the animals on the second floor and the Egyptian display on the third. They had most of the Egyptian exhibit closed for maintenance. All pics are at the bottom.

The natural history and art museums are connected in different wings of the building so I crossed the hall and started on the art galleries. I didn’t think I’d find anything too exciting, but I was wrong. They had a bunch of masterpieces from Van Gogh, Monet, Rodin, Degas, Keith Haring, Andy Warhol, and others. In one section they had a bunch of items from the 40’s and 50’s, chairs, couches, tables, TV’s, etc. that was interesting.

Overall I ended up spending about four hours in the museums. It was totally worth the price of admission. I just enough time on my meter to walk to the University of Pittsburgh and the Forbes Field wall. The university had a really cool building and Forbes Field was the oldest concrete and steel baseball stadium. It burned down in 1972, but they left one of the walls of the outfield up.
