After leaving St. Augustine on the 22nd I drove up to Jacksonville, FL. The last time I was here I thought it was a boring city, I hoped it had changed.

On the 23rd I went to the San Marco part of town. There were a few walkable bars and breweries that were on my Pubpass down there. I started at Posting House. This was a cute little wine and beer bar. I got there right when they opened and was chatting up the bartender and watching golf as she was setting up. After a little while a girl came in and sat a couple chairs down from me. She started talking to the bartender and then I jumped in at some point. I found out that she did IT on a submarine for the Navy. We talked until I finished my beer and she wanted to make some notes about her wine.

My next stop was Voodoo Brewing Company. I’ve been to the location in Denver before. I guess the main location is in New York. They only had a couple of their own beers on tap so I moved on pretty quickly.

My last stop was Beer:30. This is a beer bar that had a little bit of everything. They had a large draft list and a huge variety of cans and bottles. They even had some from Drekker. I hung out there for a little while before making my way back to the van.

On the 24th I went golfing at Bent Creek Golf Course. I got paired up with a couple guys around my age. One of them was quite good and the other was pretty bad. We all had a good time. I figured out I was standing pigeon toed and that was killing my distance and accuracy. After is straightened my feet out I added 100 yards to my drive and 20 yards to my irons.

After golfing I went all the way back up to the North side of the loop to this mall area. I stopped at Flying Fish Taphouse to get a couple beers and cool off. When I got there I found out they had a small brew setup too. Their beers were good. As I was hanging out all of the drama started.

The bartender broke a glass into a sink, no big deal. She got the majority of the glass out and started rinsing the tiny shards down the drain. She walked away to help some other people and after a few minutes she came back and the sink was overflowing all over the bar back and out to the kitchen door. She shut of the water and one of the bussers let her know that the pipe on that sink was broken and I guess it drains slow or something.

The bar was packed so she called a manager to help. She was pouring drinks and the manager grabbed a big floor squeegee, walked to the bar area, said I’m terrible at using these, and called a dishwasher to clean up the floor. The manager left to do whatever, the dishwasher pushed the water around for a few minutes and a food runner rolled up the wet carpets. After that everyone disappeared.

The floor was still soaked, now the floor in the kitchen entrance was wet from pushing the water into that drain for some reason, and everyone was just walking through it. The whole situation was driving me crazy. No one thought to get a mop and finish cleaning up. I finished my beer and had to get out of there. I don’t think young people have any critical thinking skills. They have to be told exactly what to do, no thoughts in their heads.

I went back in the next day because they didn’t stamp my Pubpass. I got there around 3PM. The place was empty besides a table in the restaurant. There was a manager and a waitress/bartender on staff. The bar area was disgusting. The plates and glasses had been cleared from lunch, but nothing was wiped down.

I asked the waitress to change the channel on the TV and she gave me sass about not knowing how to do it. The manager came out and changed the channel. I asked him to wipe the bar down where I was sitting. He did, then left the rag at the end of the bar, not wiping anything else. I once again had to get out of there as the cleanliness was killing me.

On the 26th just hung out and watched the fights in the van. Yesterday I drove back to downtown Jacksonville, FL to go frisbee golfing. The course was really long and ran along a canal. It was fairly easy, but I played the long holes and got a few more bogeys than I would’ve otherwise. I went to Ruby Beach Brewing after frolf to cool off. They had a Rye pale ale that was pretty good. After Ruby Beach I drove back down to Daytona so I could check into my study this morning.

Jacksonville still hasn’t changed and is pretty boring. There are some nice spots, but it’s not exciting.
