Yesterday I drove from Greenville, SC up to Sierra Nevada Brewing Company by Asheville, NC. Sierra Nevada is probably my favorite brewery. I’m sure I’ve said that before. I got a flight and a couple half pints of beers that I haven’t gotten before. I always have to try the taproom exclusives.
On my way out I went through the gift shop and found a 12 mix pack of the torpedo series. Atomic Torpedo is one of my favorites and this had two that are brand new. I also got a bottle of barrel aged Atomic Torpedo. I drove to Nashville, TN after leaving Sierra Nevada.

I got up early this morning so I could get some Nashville hot chicken at Red’s Hot Chicken before they got packed. Red’s is supposed to be one of the best hot chicken places in Nashville. Red’s is just an outdoor counter restaurant connected to a bar. They have a couple of seats along the wall, but no tables.
I pulled up at 10:45 just before they opened at 11. There was already a couple there waiting when I got there. Another couple came in shortly after I got there. We talked until they opened up and I ordered their special hot chicken crunchwrap. It’s hot chicken chopped up with bacon and pimento mac n cheese all wrapped up in a tortilla. It was ok. If I go back here I’ll get their dirty bird sandwich instead. I’ll also get the hot instead of the medium, it wasn’t nearly hot enough.

After lunch I drove up to Mammoth Cave National Park. This is one of my new favorite national parks. I took the historic cave tour, their most popular. We hiked 330 feet down to the bottom of the cave over two miles all underground. The rotunda near the entrance was enormous. Some of the other highlights were the bottomless pit, 145 ft drop that you walk over on a grated bridge, fat and tall mans misery, mammoth dome, and butterscotch falls. I would like to do some of the other tours. This was supposed to be a medium difficulty hike, but I wasn’t even breathing hard. There were families with 3-4 year olds and 70 somethings that pretty easily did the hike.
